Cenote Lol-Ha is an open freshwater sinkhole in the Maya community of Yaxunah, about 25 kilometres from Chichén Itzá. Its name is translated by Yucatán's official tourism platform as “water flower.” Stone steps descend toward clear, deep water, providing a cooling counterpoint to the nearby archaeological site and village experiences.
The cenote is not simply a natural swimming pool. Cenotes are openings into the Yucatán Peninsula's karst groundwater system and carry ecological, practical and cultural significance. Tourism income here is connected to community-led activities including archaeological walks, milpa visits, food preparation, hammock and craft workshops and local accommodation.
