ABOUT Atrani


Atrani is located in a truly romantic setting, Amalfi Coast. The town's position on the mountain slopes forms a natural amphitheatre overlooking the sea, with its principal piazza, Umberto I, forming its epicentre. The houses are all painted in pale colors, in perfect harmony with the surrounding landscape, and can be reached by flights of steps and narrow alleyways.

Atrani is located in the province of Salerno in the Campania region of southern Italy.

History


Atrani has a long and rich history dating back to the medieval era. It was originally a fortified village built to protect the surrounding area from invading Saracen pirates. In the 10th century, it became part of the Republic of Amalfi and played an important role in the region's maritime trade and commerce.
