The Naachtún–Dos Lagunas Protected Biotope lies in northern Petén, within the core zones of Guatemala’s Maya Biosphere Reserve. Its forest, seasonal wetlands and scarce freshwater support regional wildlife, while neighbouring archaeological landscapes preserve evidence of ancient Maya settlement and roads.
CONAP, Guatemala’s protected-areas authority, lists Dos Lagunas as a 30,719-hectare protected biotope declared in 1990. It forms a connected conservation landscape with Mirador–Río Azul National Park and forests extending toward Mexico and Belize. This is remote protected terrain, not a self-guided day park.
