Palaikastro Geopark Information Center — Street View

Palaikastro is a gateway to Sitia UNESCO Global Geopark, where mapped trails connect eastern Crete’s fossils, gorges, caves and Minoan heritage.

Palaikastro stands within Sitia UNESCO Global Geopark in eastern Crete, a protected landscape covering more than 700 square kilometres. The town’s geopark information point helps visitors look beyond beaches toward a region shaped by limestone plateaus, caves, gorges, fossils, coastal terraces and long human occupation. It is a planning gateway rather than a single fenced attraction.

UNESCO Global Geopark status recognizes internationally important geology managed together with natural and cultural heritage. It does not mean that every cliff, cave or fossil bed is open for casual exploration. Sitia’s official network identifies more than 100 geosites and numerous driving, cycling and hiking routes, each with different access and difficulty.
