Trachoulas Beach, also called Psili Ammos in some local descriptions, lies about four kilometers east of Lentas on Crete’s remote southern coast. The beach occupies the mouth of the narrow Trachoulas Gorge beneath the Asterousia Mountains. Grey fine pebbles or coarse dark sand, deep clear water and bare rock create a stark landscape that feels far more isolated than the distance from the village suggests.
This is an unorganized shore. There is no dependable shade, drinking water, food service, lifeguard station or public timetable. A day here begins with logistics: a rough-road approach followed by walking through or near the gorge, or a weather-dependent boat transfer from a local operator. Travel descriptions vary between roughly 15 and 30 minutes on foot because parking point, surface and pace differ.
