Ordesa y Monte Perdido National Park lies in northern Huesca, Aragón, in the central Pyrenees between the municipalities of Torla and Bielsa. Its name can make the place sound like one valley, but the protected landscape is organized around four sectors: Ordesa, Añisclo, Escuaín and Pineta. Each has a different approach, terrain and character. The park is best planned as a set of linked mountain experiences rather than a single viewpoint reached from one car park.
Limestone gives the area its dramatic relief. Deep canyons, cirques, high plateaus, waterfalls and karst formations sit within a landscape shaped by water, ice and long human use. Monte Perdido rises above the surrounding massif; UNESCO describes the transboundary Pyrénées–Mont Perdu property as a meeting of spectacular natural forms and a cultural landscape shaped by pastoral life. The scale changes sharply with elevation, so a short walk in a valley and a high-mountain route demand very different preparation.
