The Monumentul Eroilor in Romanii de Jos is a stone memorial dedicated to local heroes who died in the First World War. It stands in the commune of Horezu in Vâlcea County, an area better known internationally for Hurezi Monastery and its pottery tradition. The monument is not a large visitor attraction with ticketing or an interpretation centre. Its importance is civic and local: it gives names, sacrifice and public ritual a visible place in a village landscape.
Documentation by Romanian sculptor Sergiu Săliște identifies a stone “Monumentul Eroilor” at Romanii de Jos, Horezu, dated 2019. Local and national reporting also records commemorative ceremonies at heroes’ monuments in the Horezu area. These sources establish the memorial’s purpose and modern date, but they do not justify attributing every nearby plaque or inscription to the same commission. Visitors should read the text on the monument itself and avoid assuming that an online pin supplies a complete historical record.
