Flavia Solva — Street View

Discover Flavia Solva in Wagna, Austria: a free Roman town, year-round outdoor archaeology and practical 2026 visitor information.

Flavia Solva at modern Wagna was the only Roman municipium in the territory of present-day Styria and the province’s most important Roman-period archaeological site. Laid out near the River Mur, the town connected Alpine resources and local communities with the roads, markets and administration of the Roman province of Noricum.

The settlement received municipal status in the first century CE, traditionally linked with the Flavian dynasty reflected in its name. A rectilinear street grid organised houses, workshops and public life. Archaeology has revealed underfloor heating, painted plaster, imported goods and local production, showing a provincial town participating in an empire without losing its regional setting.
