Across the Vistula, Toruń’s skyline rises in brick: church towers, the Old Town Hall and rows of roofs behind the river walls. From the opposite bank it looks like a single medieval city. On foot, however, the streets tell a more complicated story of merchants and craftspeople, a castle challenged by its neighbours, and an astronomer whose name now accompanies visitors through the town.
The Polish city rewards a day spent moving between those stories. Its centre is compact enough for an unhurried walk, yet rich enough to justify a night or two. Leave room for the river view and for a taste of the gingerbread that has long travelled with Toruń’s reputation.
