In Dziekanowice, east of Poznań and close to the Lake Lednica landscape, the Wielkopolska Ethnographic Park presents the buildings and material culture of historic Greater Poland. It is an open-air branch of the Museum of the First Piasts at Lednica, not a preserved village frozen in everyday use. Houses, farm buildings and other structures are arranged so visitors can read how settlement, work and household life fitted together across the region.
The museum’s name can make the place sound like a single manor farm, but the visitor encounters a broader rural landscape. A folwark, the Polish landed-estate farm, is one useful lens: it organized fields, storage, livestock and labour on a scale different from an individual peasant household. By placing estate buildings alongside village homes and communal structures, the park makes those differences visible without reducing country life to picturesque cottages.
