Stobi Winery stands near Gradsko in North Macedonia's Tikveš wine region, close to the archaeological city from which it takes its name. Tikveš is the country's largest and most important viticultural area, where Mediterranean influence moving north meets a continental climate. Warm days, dry conditions and local soils support both indigenous and international grape varieties.
The modern winery should not be confused with ancient Stobi. One is a production and hospitality business; the other is a protected archaeological institution with separate management, entry and conservation rules. Their proximity nevertheless creates a useful itinerary linking contemporary agriculture with a city that once controlled routes between the Vardar and Crna rivers.
