Livoskopos Beach — Street View

Livoskopos Beach rewards hikers with pale sand on Anafi’s remote north coast, reached by an exposed trail that demands preparation.

Livoskopos Beach lies on the northwestern side of Anafi, far from the chain of easier beaches served by the island’s central road. The Municipality of Anafi describes a shore of fine blond sand, but the journey is as important as the beach itself. Reaching Livoskopos on foot crosses an austere Cycladic landscape of chapel paths, old agricultural traces and the slopes below Vigla, the island’s highest summit.

This is not a resort beach with a timetable and a predictable package of services. Anafi’s northern shore is steep and sparsely indented, and Livoskopos should be planned as a self-supported hike followed by a swim only when sea and weather conditions are favorable. The remoteness that makes the bay appealing also means shade, drinking water, food, lifeguard coverage and mobile reception must never be assumed.
