Kolimvithra is not a single uniform strip of sand but a broad bay divided into two beaches on the northern coast of Tinos. Known locally as Mikri Ammos and Megali Ammos—the smaller and larger sands—the pair offers two distinct experiences within the same landscape. One side is relatively sheltered and organised; the other faces the open northern Aegean and draws surfers when the wind builds.
The beaches lie near Komi and the inland villages of the island, reached by road from Tinos Town. Regional Aegean tourism information identifies the long Megali Ammos shore as a surfing location: northerly winds above roughly force five can create suitable waves. That exposure gives Kolimvithra its energetic character but also means conditions can be unsuitable for relaxed or inexperienced swimming.
