Federsee Viewing Platform — Street View

Walk the Federseesteg to its lake platform for reeds, birdlife and wetland views, with verified 2026 access, prices and accessibility details.

The Federseesteg is a 1.5-kilometre wooden boardwalk leading from Bad Buchau through wet meadows and a tall reed belt to a viewing platform over Federsee. Its purpose is more than scenic access: the raised route lets people enter a sensitive wetland while concentrating foot traffic above saturated ground. An observation tower along the way opens broader views across the basin and, in clear weather, toward the Alps.

Federsee is shallow and surrounded by extensive fen and reed habitats. Seasonal water levels and vegetation mean the open lake may look smaller than visitors expect. The landscape supports breeding and migrating birds, dragonflies, mammals and specialized plants, while peat preserves an exceptional archaeological record beneath the surface.
