Historic Centre of Arequipa

The Plaza de Armas of Arequipa is the central square of the city’s historic centre and one of its most important public spaces. It is framed by the ashlar arcades, the Cathedral of Arequipa, and surrounding civil and religious buildings that express the city’s viceregal and republican architecture. Arequipa’s historic centre was inscribed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List in 2000, and the plaza is one of its defining urban landmarks.
