Pebble Beach Golf Links — Street View

Discover Pebble Beach Golf Links’ 1919 history, Pacific coastline, championship legacy, 2026–27 green fee and the rules for booking a tee time.

Pebble Beach Golf Links occupies a dramatic stretch of California’s Monterey Peninsula, where fairways meet the Pacific and the route repeatedly turns toward the shoreline. The course is part of Pebble Beach Resorts, but its designation as a public golf course distinguishes it from a members-only club: visitors can play, subject to tee-time availability and the resort’s booking rules. “Public” does not mean free entry, an unrestricted walk around the course or a guaranteed same-day start. For golfers, the draw is the rare chance to play a championship venue whose setting remains part of the challenge on nearly every hole.

The course opened on February 22, 1919, as a project intended to make the developing Pebble Beach area more attractive. Samuel F. B. Morse enlisted amateur golfers Jack Neville and Douglas Grant to design it. Their layout sought to bring as many holes as possible close to the bay while using the natural contours of the land. That coastal relationship is not a decorative backdrop: wind, exposed edges and changes in elevation shape the decisions a player faces. The course’s reputation rests on the combination of a playable public experience and a landscape that can make even a familiar-looking shot feel exposed.
