ABOUT Nazca Lines
The Lines and Geoglyphs of Nazca and Pampas de Jumana are a pre-Hispanic archaeological complex in the southern Peruvian desert, between Nazca and Palpa in the Ica region. They were created by ancient societies of the south coast between roughly the 8th century BCE and the 8th century CE by removing dark surface stones to reveal lighter soil below. Inscribed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List in 1994, the site is known for its large-scale geometric designs, animals and ceremonial lines.
