Monkey Forest - Yodfat — Street View

Plan Yodfat Monkey Forest in Galilee: reserve ahead, check current hours and follow rules that let animals choose whether to approach visitors.

Yodfat Monkey Forest is an animal sanctuary and educational visitor site near the community of Yodfat in Israel’s Lower Galilee. It is not designed as a conventional zoo circuit in which every animal is guaranteed to appear on cue. The operator describes a wooded setting with connected enclosures and open areas, shaped around the animals’ needs. Monkeys may move through parts of the forest, remain in their own areas or stay out of sight. Visitors therefore come to observe, not to demand contact or a close-up photograph.

The site’s own history says it began in the 1970s as an animal corner for children in Yodfat, with squirrel monkeys arriving from a breeding facility in Belgium. According to the operator, the project became an animal shelter, educational center and tourist attraction in 1990. That account is the institution’s self-description rather than an independent historical study, but it helps explain why the forest frames itself as more than an entertainment venue. Its stated emphasis is animal welfare, environmental enrichment and teaching visitors to treat animals as living beings rather than possessions.
