The Peak Tram is Hong Kong’s long-running funicular railway linking Central with the upper slopes of Victoria Peak. It is both a transport option and a way to experience the city’s steep terrain: the line climbs from about 33 metres above sea level at the lower terminus to 396 metres at the upper station. The operator lists the track at roughly 1.278 kilometres, with gradients varying from four to 25.7 degrees. Buildings appear to tilt as the carriage climbs, an effect tied to the steep viewing angle rather than a change in the structures themselves.
The tram’s Central terminus is at 33 Garden Road, a walk of about 10–15 minutes from Central MTR station via Exit J2, according to the operator. Public transport and taxis are alternatives if walking is inconvenient. At the top, the tram arrives at The Peak Tower, which has its own restaurants, shops and attractions; the Sky Terrace 428 observation deck is a separate facility with separate hours and admission. Treating the tram, tower and terrace as distinct parts of the visit helps avoid assuming that one ticket or one opening schedule covers everything.
