Si Oreum — Street View

Si Oreum rises above Seogwipo on Jeju’s forested southern slope, where volcanic scenery, a long-distance trail and difficult modern history meet.

Si Oreum, written 시오름 in Korean, rises on the southern flank of Hallasan above Seogwipo. At roughly 758 metres above sea level, it belongs to Jeju’s extraordinary family of oreum: the subsidiary volcanic cones that give the island much of its distinctive topography. This is not one of Jeju’s manicured summit attractions. Its appeal lies in a quieter landscape of mountain forest, old working tracks and the layered evidence of island history.

The cone stands beside the Camellia Trail section of the Hallasan Dullegil, or Hallasan Circular Trail. Jeju’s official tourism service describes the greater route as an approximately 80-kilometre network developed from former military roads, forest roads and tracks once used to move produce from shiitake farms. The Camellia Trail runs for 13.5 kilometres between the Muosa Beopjeongsa bus-stop area and the Donnaeko trailhead, passing Si Oreum on the way.
