Musée Saint-Remi occupies the former royal Benedictine Abbey of Saint-Remi beside the basilica in Reims, France. Its collections span regional archaeology, the history of the abbey, medieval art and military history. The setting is part of the experience: galleries unfold through historic monastic spaces connected with one of the city’s most important religious institutions.
The abbey developed around the cult of Saint Remigius, the bishop traditionally associated with the baptism of Clovis. Its surviving buildings include medieval and later phases rather than one single construction date. After the French Revolution the complex served as a hospital, and it later held archaeological stonework. The museum opened in the former abbey in 1978, bringing collections on Reims and the surrounding region into a building with its own long history.
