Malta Fun Train — Street View

Plan the Malta Fun Train in Valletta with its published timetable, fares and boarding details, plus context on the UNESCO-listed capital.

The Malta Fun Train offers a compact way to look across Valletta before exploring the capital on foot. Despite its name, it is not a railway: Malta’s transport authority classifies trackless trains as articulated road vehicles pulling carriages. The operator currently advertises a 30-minute sightseeing tour that starts and finishes beside St John’s Co-Cathedral. It may suit visitors short on time or those who want an initial orientation, but the ride is a circuit rather than a substitute for walking through the city’s streets and monuments.

Valletta’s setting gives the short tour historical depth. UNESCO describes the capital as a fortified city on a narrow, hilly peninsula between two natural harbours. Following the Great Siege of 1565, the Knights of St John founded the new city in 1566, planning it as a unified Renaissance creation with a regular street grid and bastioned walls adapted to the terrain. Valletta’s layout is therefore not incidental scenery: it reflects a deliberate urban design shaped by military engineering and the dramatic position above the harbours.
