The mission of Jesús de Tavarangüé is one of the surviving Guaraní-Jesuit reductions — the settlements founded by Jesuit missionaries across South America in the 17th century. It lies in the department of Itapúa in southern Paraguay, about 38 kilometres from the city of Encarnación.
The mission was founded in 1685 by the Jesuit father Jerónimo Delfín. The settlement had to move several times before reaching its final site, where the community built one of the largest mission churches of its era.
