Jagaddala Vihara lies in Dhamoirhat Upazila of Naogaon District, close to Bangladesh’s northwestern borderlands. The archaeological mound is identified with a Buddhist mahavihara associated with the later Pala dynasty, probably founded under King Ramapala in the eleventh or early twelfth century.
Bangladesh’s Department of Archaeology connects the site with historical references to Ramavati, Ramapala’s capital, and records traditions naming Avalokiteshvara and Mahatara as principal deities. Identification has developed through texts, surface remains and recovered objects rather than a completely reconstructed monastery complex.
