About Qorokwe Camp
Qorokwe Camp: a private Okavango safari beside Moremi
Qorokwe Camp occupies a private 26,000-hectare wilderness area in the southeastern Okavango Delta, bordering Moremi Game Reserve. Operated by Wilderness, it overlooks a seasonal floodplain and waterholes used by wildlife. Access is by arranged light-aircraft transfer from Maun to the camp airstrip; this is not a lodge that independent drivers can reach on a public road.
The current camp layout has eight tented suites plus a larger family unit with its own splash pool. Raised walkways connect accommodation with the dining, lounge and bar areas. The operator states that the camp is powered entirely by solar energy, but remote luxury still consumes resources, making careful water, laundry and energy choices relevant.
Floodwater determines the experience
The Okavango is an inland delta fed by a river rising in the Angolan highlands. Botswana Tourism describes a changing mosaic of channels, lagoons, flooded grassland, islands and dry woodland. Flood levels generally build during Botswana's dry winter months, but timing and depth vary; no booking can guarantee that every channel is navigable.
Qorokwe combines game drives with boating and mokoro excursions when water conditions allow. Night drives are possible in the private concession, unlike in many national reserves. Wildlife can include elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard, cheetah, red lechwe and abundant birds, yet ethical reporting never promises a sighting. Animals move according to water, food and disturbance, not a guest schedule.
Rates, inclusions and practical realities
For June through October 2026, the operator publishes a fully inclusive rate of USD 2,940 per person per night. It states that accommodation, meals, twice-daily camp activities, park fees, laundry and most local drinks are included, with premium imported brands and champagne excluded. Rates, supplements and transfer costs must be reconfirmed for exact dates before a nonrefundable purchase.
Light aircraft impose strict luggage limits, usually requiring soft-sided bags. The Delta is a malaria area; travelers should obtain individualized medical advice well before departure and use repellent, long clothing at dusk and provided nets. Comprehensive insurance should cover medical evacuation, trip disruption and safari activities.
- Confirm charter times, luggage allowance and all transfer costs in writing.
- Ask which water activities are operating during the intended stay.
- Follow guides around camp; wild animals move through unfenced areas.
- Never request off-road pressure that stresses or crowds an animal.
- Bring neutral layers, sun protection and prescribed medication.
A safari measured by ecosystems, not a checklist
The most valuable Qorokwe itinerary alternates habitats and times of day. A dawn drive may reveal tracks and predator movement; an afternoon mokoro, when available, brings attention to reeds, frogs, insects and waterbirds. Time on the deck can be as informative as a long drive when animals approach the floodplain.
Qorokwe is expensive and highly managed, so travelers should judge it on transparency as well as comfort: conservation practices, local employment, guiding quality and limits on wildlife disturbance. The Delta's strongest story is seasonal change. A responsible camp visit accepts that uncertainty instead of treating rare animals as products guaranteed by the nightly rate.
