About Paragliding Tandem Flights Ohrid

Paragliding Tandem Flights Ohrid: Lake Ohrid from the air

Paragliding Tandem Flights Ohrid is the summer branch of Paragliding Club Vertigo, established in Skopje in 2002 and operating tourist flights in the Ohrid-Prespa region since 2010. Its ground base is advertised near Cuba Libre Beach in Ohrid, while take-off points depend on wind, permissions and the flight selected. This is an aviation activity, not a fixed scenic ride with a guaranteed departure time.

The operator publishes a main summer schedule of 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. during June, July, August and September, with possible flights in shoulder months when weather permits. Those hours describe availability, not certainty. Wind direction, cloud, visibility, fire restrictions and airspace coordination can delay or cancel a booking even on a clear-looking day.

Galicica, altitude and a protected landscape

Many Ohrid tandem flights launch from Galicica, the mountain separating lakes Ohrid and Prespa. The national park's management plan allows paraglider take-off only in designated management zones, and the park can impose seasonal restrictions. In July and August 2026, forest access required special registration during a fire-risk ban, evidence that every passenger must check current park notices before departure.

The reward is a landscape recognized for both nature and culture. Lake Ohrid and its historic shore form a UNESCO World Heritage property shared by North Macedonia and Albania. From altitude, the relationship between the old town, lake basin and Galicica becomes unusually clear, but photography must remain secondary to the pilot's instructions during launch and landing.

Licensing and passenger safety

North Macedonia's Civil Aviation Agency requires free-flight pilots to hold an appropriate license and publishes lists of authorized tandem pilots and training centers. A tandem passenger must give written consent after being briefed about risks, equipment, take-off, flight, landing and emergency procedures. A minor aged ten or older requires prior written parental or guardian consent and a parent or guardian present at take-off.

Before paying, verify the individual pilot's current tandem authorization through the agency, ask what insurance applies and confirm the wing is certified for tandem use. Discuss weight limits, mobility, footwear and medical issues honestly. Never pressure an operator to fly when the pilot cancels for conditions; a conservative decision is evidence of professionalism.

  • Book directly and obtain a written meeting point, inclusions and cancellation policy.
  • Wear secure shoes and fitted layers; loose hats and sandals are unsuitable.
  • Confirm park fees, transport and photo packages before payment.
  • Carry identification and disclose relevant health or mobility concerns.
  • Follow the pilot immediately during the take-off run and landing approach.

Planning the flight as part of an Ohrid visit

Keep the flight day flexible rather than scheduling it just before an airport transfer. Morning and afternoon conditions differ, and the operator may move passengers between meeting and launch points. Protect the rest of the day with a backup plan in Ohrid's old town, at the lakeshore or in a museum if flying is postponed.

A tandem flight can be one of Ohrid's strongest viewpoints, but the credible story is not adrenaline alone. It is a regulated collaboration between licensed pilot, passenger, weather and protected terrain. Travelers who verify credentials and accept cancellation decisions gain the best chance of seeing the lake safely without treating Galicica as an unrestricted adventure playground.
