Atlanta Stadium

(Mercedes-Benz Stadium)

Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia, is one of the most technologically advanced sports venues on the planet and will host a semifinal on 15 July at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. During the tournament it is known as Atlanta Stadium.

The stadium in brief

Opened in 2017 at a cost of roughly US$1.6 billion, the stadium is famous for its eight-petal retractable 'oculus' roof that opens like a camera shutter, and for its 360-degree 'halo' video board. It is the shared home of the NFL's Atlanta Falcons and MLS side Atlanta United FC, one of the best-supported clubs in North America. World Cup capacity is about 75,000.

History

Built to replace the Georgia Dome, the venue won acclaim for its fan-friendly concession pricing and has hosted Super Bowl LIII, the College Football Playoff Championship and the 2018 MLS Cup.
